Lisbon Montessori School is opening its doors in September 2019!
We will start with a Casa community for children ages 2 ½ – 6 years and an Elementary environment for children ages 6 -12.
Lisbon Montessori School is a sister school of Vilnius Montessori pre-School, which has been in operation since 2010. A word from the founder of both schools, Montessori trained directress, Ivona Rozanovska:
“I have discovered Montessori philosophy in 2007 and ever since then a clarity of priorities in human development has been shaping the way our academic teams in both schools perceive each child’s holistic development. The need to share this beautiful way of supporting the child on her road to self-formation has led me towards creating multiple prepared environments for children’s benefit. As the founder of both schools, I am happy to apply my lengthy experience to creating Montessori prepared environments in Lisbon Montessori School. This new school brings a new challenge as this year we are working towards creating our first Montessori Elementary program. The passion for Montessori philosophy is something that I have found to be timeless, as it brings not only immense gratitude while observing the children benefit from Montessori approach, but it also blesses every member of staff who joins our international teams with the opportunity to learn from children in an atmosphere of mutual respect and understanding. As a major legacy of Dr. Maria Montessori I have witnessed the truth that children self-learn and self-create. It has been a privilege to observe children in our schools and beyond and support them in shaping their personalities.”
Lisbon Montessori School is based on the educational philosophy developed by Dr. Maria Montessori and it strives to implement the methods created by this all-time-remarkable educator. In practice our school translates this to ‘eliciting the joy of learning from within children. Between birth and 6 years of age children construct their personalities, which makes this period of development extremely important. Children at this age are thirsty for knowledge about their immediate environment. LMS works to create an environment where children will feel safe, able, trustworthy, appreciated, and encouraged to focus deeply on their activities.
Dr. Montessori believed that patterns of concentration and exactness established in early childhood also produce a confident and competent learner in later years.
Mixed age is a very important factor of the Montessori classroom. This provides children with possibilities to discover ways of functioning in a real social group. In addition, a great deal of knowledge reinforcement results from this interaction of different aged children. “Our schools are alive. To understand what the older ones are doing fills the little ones with enthusiasm. The older ones are happy to be able to teach what they know.There are no inferiority complexes, but everyone achieves a healthy normality though the mutual exchange of spiritual energy. ” (Montessori, The Absorbent Mind).
School information sessions will take place starting in the Spring of 2019. After you email us we offer to put your email address on our mailing list to keep you up to date with further information sessions. Tours inside the school building will be organised in August and September 2019. This is because the former owner, Os Aprendizes will leave the premises in July 2019.
